International Children' s Day - Colombia

In honour of International Children’s Day and our passion for play, we thought we would explore how different kids play around the world! From November 20th - 26th, we’ll be sharing fun ways children play in countries across all 7 continents. This week we are visiting… Colombia! AND guess who we picked up along our journey? Aunt Nellie from The Peekabeans Club! She'll be our guide for the rest of this adventure!

Hello Explorers! I am so excited to join you on this adventure around the world! Today we're crossing the Pacific Ocean from visiting Australia yesterday and visiting Colombia! Colombia is a beautiful country in the north of South America. Here is where we discovered children playing with what is called a Trompo! Learn more about this traditional game below.

TROMPO

"Trompo is one of the most popular street games in all of Colombia and practice makes perfect."

"The game, “spinning top” in English, consists of a top that’s spun by string wound around its body before being launched. Trompo players compete against one another by mastering difficult tricks, including the rollercoaster, drum roll, corkscrew and “stairway to Heaven”." (via colombia.ca)

Check out the video below to watch how kids play with the Trompo!

COLOMBIA MAP COLOURING SHEET

Alongside celebrating children around the world through featuring different ways kids play, we wanted to create something for your little ones to play with while learning about somewhere new. So, we created a Colouring Sheet featuring the  Colombia's national bird! Click below to download and save the PDF, then print and get colouring!
